NQ Rules. New Beginning in Twenty Eleven

25 June 2010

WE HAVE LISTENED TO OUR MEMBERS AND AFFILIATED CLUBS

Thank you for taking the time to record your views on the change to the rules governing shows held outside the South-East corner of Queensland.

Dogs Queensland has noted your views and we would like to inform you in regards to the proposed changes which were due to be implemented on 1st July 2010.

The volume and variety of comments the office has received is both thought provoking and heartening to see that so many of the membership feel so strongly about the promotion and enjoyment of dogs. In all, we have received 9 pieces of communication from Clubs and 89 from individuals. Of this communication, 89% of Clubs were against the new Rules but only 58% of individuals were against the new Rules.

Dogs Queensland has a continuous process of reviewing rules in order to assist all within the dog world and based upon the volume and replies received, we feel justified in the proposed implementation of these rule changes.

This office has had, and is still receiving comments and complaints about the conduct and performance of various judges and club officials, particularly north of Bundaberg. Whilst these comments might not be unique to the northern part of the state, it does appear that a high percentage was applicable to the area. The changes to the rules were to help to address part of these raised issues. However, it is acknowledged these rule changes have highlighted other issues which, whilst unintended, have penalised other sections of the dog community.

The proposed rule changes are now suspended until 1st January 2011. This will allow further thought and discussion on these common issues with the view to overcoming any perceived shortcomings and to launching a New Beginning in Twenty Eleven.

Dogs Queensland has proudly launched a campaign of training, qualification and recognition for part of the hard working section of the dog world with the “Accreditation of Show Managers and Stewards”. Without professional Show Managers and Stewards, the efficient functioning of dogs shows / trials simply does not happen. Show Managers and Stewards are integral to all shows, whether it is conformation showing or one of our many other disciplines such as obedience, agility, retrieving, field trials, herding or earth dogs.

All our judges are governed by our CCC (Q) Code of Ethics, including under Section 4, the Judges Code of Practice. For our shows to be successful, we need our Affiliated Clubs, Show Managers, Judges and Stewards all working in harmony so that all exhibitors are assured of courtesy and fairness.

The CCC (Q) trading as Dogs Queensland has, as its focus, the promotion and enjoyment of our dogs. We ask that we all remember what we are about so that we don’t get away from the basics.

New Beginnings in Twenty Eleven will be backed by your comments and suggestions to help address how best to implement rules consistent across our State of Queensland. Time (or rather lack of it) is a scarce resource for us all but for our sport to move forward, we ask that you do take some time and offer any suggestions you may have with regards to the running of Shows, Trials etc. that might be unique for your local situation or might be a positive move for all of our state as regards to the running of dog events.

Long serving Councillor and North Queensland representative of Dogs Queensland, Eddie Ryder has retired but he is still available to take your calls and this project is under the supervision of newly appointed Councillor Alf Fitzgerald and both their contact details are below:
