IMPORTANT - NO CAMPING AT DURACK

23 July 2010

The following is The President's Message regarding No Camping at the Durack Showgrounds:

In the June 2009 Queensland Dog World Magazine and again in July 2010, the Committee re-affirmed a previous decision taken by former Committees that camping is not allowed at the Durack Showgrounds and indeed camping has never been officially allowed. This includes any staying overnight, irrespective of how it is described.

Why is this so?

1. The CCCQ does not have the necessary permits;

2. The CCCQ does not have insurance cover;

3. The CCCQ facilities infrastructure is aging and cannot cope;

4. The CCCQ infrastructure including waste disposal (toilets, showers and general waste disposal) is inadequate and cannot meet the needs of members camping on site.

I have previously informed members that in respect to toilets that your Committee is in the process of upgrading to connect to the sewers and whilst this is taking longer than we would like it is still progressing.

Our refusal to allow camping at Durack by members and interstate dog enthusiasts is governed by the factors above and by no other reason.

Durack is our major asset, with the facilities held by trustees in trust for the CCCQ, who have the responsibility for its usage. The Committee considers all interests in respect to its use and is guided by principles of fairness and equity for all users, good management, governance and applicable laws.
