UPDATE - OBEDIENCE, TRACKING & DWD CLUBS - PRESENTATION EVENING 20 JAN 2018

Apologies but a few details were incorrect in the email sent to you yesterday afternoon regarding this Presentation Evening. Please ignore that one and view the details below for the correct information:

The Annual Presentation Evening for the Obedience, Rally Obedience, Tracking and Dances With Dogs disciplines will be held at Durack on Saturday 20 January 2018. Relevant information is below:

WHAT:  Annual Presentation Evening for Championship Title trophies, individual Dog of the Year Awards and Club Shields organised by the Dogs Queensland Obedience Sub-Committee.

WHEN:  From 5:00pm on Saturday 20 January 2018.

WHERE:  Function Room, Dogs Queensland Showgrounds, 247 King Ave, Durack.

HOW:  BYO food (excluding desserts) to share, and BYO drinks.

DATE TO NOTIFY NUMBERS:  Friday 12 January 2018

This is our annual celebration of our friends’ and fellow competitors’ achievements and excellence in our sports. It is also a great way to bring our Judges, organisers and competitors, indeed the entire dog sports community, together to celebrate 2017’s achievements and look forward to the year ahead.  Full details of the awards appeared in the October Dog World magazine.

There are no tickets and there is no charge to attend this function. However, everyone is asked to bring along a dish to share with other participants (rather than just within your own Club or amongst your own table). The Obedience Sub-Committee will provide some yummy desserts. The venue is registered and you are welcome to BYO drinks.

We urge all Clubs to participate and to encourage their members, whether existing or potential future triallers, to come along for a fun evening. This can help build community within your own Club as well as across Clubs and across disciplines. Here are some suggestions of those you may wish to encourage to attend –

• Your Committee members,

• Your instructors,

• Your trialling members (in any discipline),

• Your upcoming members and prospective triallers – to nurture their interest and show them the levels of excellence that can be achieved.

Some suggestions as to the types of dishes participants might bring include cold meat platters of various kinds as well as salads. We would ask that each Club coordinate amongst your participants to bring a variety of types of food; that way our collective table should be varied as well as very appetising.

This year we will also be holding a best dressed table competition with a special mystery prize to be awarded to the table judged the winner.

Although there is no charge, we do need some indication of numbers to assist with our organisation. To that end, we ask Club Secretaries to advise Roslyn McGuire by email to rosie01_83@hotmail.com by 12 January 2018 of the expected number of attendees from your Club.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - CEO APPOINTMENT

As I have previously advised, the Board decided to engage the services of an experienced Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to help drive our organisation further ahead, provide more strategic focus and enhance our reputation and profile as the peak dog body in Queensland.

Over the last few weeks, a panel of Directors appointed by the Board conducted interviews of the shortlisted candidates for the position. The Board accepted the panel’s recommendation and I can now advise that we have successfully employed the services of Mr Brian Menke, who will commence work for Dogs Queensland on 8 January 2018 as our CEO.

Brian is an accomplished CEO, with significant expertise and experience in both the small and “big box” retail sector. His experience has seen him deliver at both strategic and operational levels across the broad spectrum of operations, including coaching and developing, managing change, sales and revenue streams, profit protection, online marketing and development of new business.

He has proven results in developing strategy and operational planning to respond to business requirements and customer/member expectations, leading significant change in complex environments and achievement of stretch targets in competitive markets. He is passionate about the importance of managing relationships and partnering, based on a solution focused, team based ethos.

Brian will be tasked with executing strategies across human resources, marketing, fundraising and program delivery areas. He will oversee community and public relations and be tasked to enhance the Dogs Queensland name throughout the wider community.

This engagement is a new approach for Dogs Queensland and we firmly believe that with Brian’s appointment, our organisation will see some positive changes over the next twelve months and into the future. We ask that members be patient during Brian’s first few weeks while he gets his bearings and assesses the priorities of his role.

Kind Regards,
Shane Thomas
President

UPDATE - PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE RE DNA PROFILING

I refer to Dogs Queensland President, Shane Thomas’ email sent on 3 November that I reproduce below.

On behalf of the Dogs Queensland Board of Directors and Canine Health Committee, may I thank you for the time you have taken to submit your questions, it has been greatly appreciated.

A FAQ document based upon these questions has been prepared. CLICK HERE to view this document - I am sure you will find this very useful.

If, however you have any further questions, please email them to me direct to rob@dogsqueensland.org.au and I will forward them to our Canine Health Committee.

I will forward more information on becoming an authorised collection agent in the next day or so.

Original email sent 3 November:

Due to increased problems surrounding litter registrations and various health matters within purebred dogs, the Board of Dogs Queensland has recently moved to implement a trial DNA profiling system for all breeds. This approach will assist in the protection of our members, puppy buyers and of our national pedigree database, along with acting as a precursor to proposed mandatory health testing which is likely to be implemented within the next 3 years. The system will also allow a trial for information to be uploaded into the national health database, ORCHID, which is currently under development.

From 1 January 2018, all litter registrations lodged must be accompanied with a DNA profile for parentage. This will need to include DNA profiles of the Sire, the Dam and the pups. The requirement will apply where the mating took place on or after 1 January 2018. The appropriate forms and fees will be released to members in the coming weeks.

In line with the ANKC protocols for DNA testing, DNA collection must be performed by an approved independent collector. This can include Veterinarians. Owners/breeders cannot collect DNA samples from their own dogs. Identification of the dog by microchip or unique tattoo is required and it must be verified by the collector at the time of the DNA collection and recorded on the appropriate form. For verification of parentage, both parents and the offspring concerned must have DNA profiles.

Dogs Queensland is currently in discussions with Orivet Genetic Pet Care to establish a working partnership and provide members with a cost effective solution to DNA collection. Orivet are able to supply DNA collection kits which can be used by approved collection agents. Once the samples are returned, a DNA profile report should be issued within 7 to 10 working days from the receipt of the samples. Further details of Dogs Queensland negotiations with Orivet will be provided very soon.

This process is a very new approach for Dogs Queensland and we expect that there may be some teething problems from the implementation date. We ask that members be patient with this process and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email the office.

ANONYMOUS EMAILS SENT TO DOGS QUEENSLAND MEMBERS

As some members would be aware, there have been emails sent by an anonymous party, which make defamatory and completely incorrect accusations against the Board and Management of Dogs Queensland.

The allegations made by the emails titled ‘Dogs Queensland evades scrutiny’, ‘Dogs Queensland buries complaints’, ‘Dogs Queensland sweeps complaints under the carpet’ and ‘Dogs Queensland supresses complaints against its upper echelons’ are absolutely untrue and of course completely refuted.

The fact that these emails have been sent anonymously show the true nature of the person, or persons, that have disseminated these lies and allegations.  Acting in an anonymous way but yet professing the interest of transparency is not only hypocritical, but cowardly.

It is the Board’s intention to investigate, and ascertain who the author of these defamatory emails is, and if necessary, take action against the author.

I assure members that there is no truth to these emails, and I ask that you all disregard any emails received from ‘Queensland Dogs’, ‘queensland_dogs@outlook.com’ or ‘queensland.dogs@outlook.com’.

REMINDER - LOCKYER VALLEY REGIONAL COUNCIL MEMBER INFO EVENING 9 NOVEMBER

This is a reminder for members living in the Lockyer Valley Regional Council area or any other members regarding the information evening on Thursday 9 November. The email below was sent on 1 November:

If you live in the Lockyer Valley Regional Council (LVRC) area, we are delighted to extend an invitation to you. With the valuable support of the Lockyer Valley Kennel Club, we have organised an information evening that will be exclusive to our members who currently reside in the Council area of Lockyer Valley.

The information evening will be chaired by Mark Sheppard, Dogs Queensland's Government Liaison Officer.

This event will introduce to members what options are currently available to keep additional dogs and then to breed from those dogs in the Lockyer Valley region. Members will also be given an insight into the Dogs Queensland breeder permit scheme and the benefits that accrue where that scheme has been adopted by Local Councils.

Before any formal approach can be made to Lockyer Valley Regional Council on behalf of our resident members, it is important that all members have an opportunity to discuss the current local law requirements and whether changes need to be made.

Please note that this information evening is not just for our breeder members – all members can benefit from changes to Local Laws that allow for additional dogs to be kept.

It is important that we have a strong turnout to this information evening – member sentiment will help determine the next steps and what level of support and interaction (lobbying) between members and their Local Council representatives may be required.

Members would be aware that it can take quite some time to convince local Councils to review and then adopt local laws that apply to the keeping and breeding of dogs – this information evening will help members to understand the possible timeframes involved. It will also give members an opportunity to discuss what Council contacts already exist and how we best utilise those contacts to our advantage.

DATE:                  Thursday 9 November 2017

TIME:                   6:30pm for a start time of 7:00pm sharp

VENUE:                Glenore Grove Public Hall, Brightview Road, Glenore Grove

DURATION:        We expect that the information evening will finish no later than 8:00pm

CATERING:          Light refreshments will be available after the event.

Important: Would members please indicate their intention to attend the information evening by sending their RSVP to the Dogs Queensland office no later than 4:00pm on Wednesday 8 November. Please either respond to this email or send direct to mark@dogsqueensland.org.au.

The Conformation Judges Committee wishes to advise that Mr Andrew Burt (Vic) will present a Seminar for Conformation Judges which will be held on Saturday 18 November at 9:00am in the Function Room at the Dogs Queensland Sports Grounds at Durack.

The topics that will be covered are:

• How to be a Successful Trainee Judge
• Critiquing
• Judging Ethics and Social Media

Attendance at this seminar is a requirement for all Trainee Judges but any other Members are more than welcome. However, it is highly recommended that all Judges attend, particularly for the final two presentations.

As morning tea will be provided, please advise the Dogs Queensland office if you plan to attend by either replying to this email or send to rob@dogsqueensland.org.au.

Andrew Burt

Although not born into the dog world, I have been involved in dogs for over 40 years. My main involvement has been with Bullmastiffs. Over the last 20 years I have successfully bred and exhibited Shiba Inu under the Kazumi prefix, breeding and owning Shibas that have reached BIS level. Other breeds with which I have some involvement include Whippets, Setters and French Bulldogs, Shih Tzu and Labradors.

I began my judging career journey in 1989, and I am now an All Breeds Judge with some overseas experience. I have judged extensively throughout Australia, together with New Zealand, several countries throughout Asia, The Americas, UK and several countries in Europe. Highlights include judging Bullmastiffs in the UK, judging the Bullmastiff World Cup in Budapest, Hungary and in 2014 I had the pleasure of judging several breeds at the Helsinki World Dog Show.

I have been part of committees with breed, group and all breed clubs, and participated in our sport in the capacity of an exhibitor, judge, steward, show manager, judges training group leader, trainee judge mentor and I am now Chairman of the Royal Melbourne Show Dog Section Committee.

Currently I am the Trainee Judges Manager for the Non Sporting Group in Victoria, and an accredited Tester in the ANKC Judges Training Scheme for all breeds. I have worked with Trainee Judges in the Utility, Hound and Non Sporting ANKC Groups.

I am a school teacher by profession, working in the secondary education sector.

It is a pleasure to be asked to present to Queensland Trainee Judges, and hopefully I will be able to, in some way, enhance your journey to becoming a judge, or increase your group licences.

Andrew Burt.

LOCKYER VALLEY REGIONAL COUNCIL MEMBER INFO EVENING 9 NOVEMBER

OPEN SHOW BEST OF WINNERS EVENT 18 NOVEMBER

Dogs Queensland Best of Winners Event Information

WHEN:           18 November 2017
                        Registration from 2:30 - 3:00pm
                        Pre-judging (if required) from 3:00pm
                        Judging begins from 4:00pm

WHERE:         Durack Sportsgrounds, 247 King Ave, Durack

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN INVITATION - INVITATIONS WILL BE EMAILED TO OWNERS OF QUALIFIED DOGS SEPARATELY.

WHAT WILL BE HAPPENING:

2017 sees the return of a finale event for winners in Open Shows (the previous event was known as the Open Show Spectacular). It is aimed at acknowledging Dogs Queensland members and winning canines who regularly enter Open Shows for the benefit of trainee Judges and their education.

This year, the events will be completely separate to the DOTY and POTY events as a reflection of Dogs Queensland members' feedback from previous years.

In total, there will be three events run – Neuter Best of Winners, Puppy Best of Winners and Best of Winners.

This competition will be held in hope of plenty of spectators, plenty of excuse for cheering and fun; music, food and merriment along with keen and healthy competition.

An evening to remember.

QUALIFICATION:

The point score qualifying period is from 1 January 2017 to 15 October 2017.

The criterion for qualification are as follows:

Best of Winners

• The top 24 qualifiers will be eligible to enter.

• Points are accumulated by winning Best in Group (5 points) and Runner Up to Best in Group (2 points) at any Open Show in Queensland to determine the 24 qualifiers.

• In the case of multiple dogs being on equal points for the final positions, all will be invited to enter, however, where more than 24 dogs have entered, the final positions from the dogs on tied points will be decided with prejudging occurring prior to the draw in the afternoon of the event by a different judge.

• All dogs entered will receive a participatory sash.

Puppy Best of Winners

• The top 24 puppy qualifiers will be eligible to enter.

• Puppies winning best Baby Puppy in Group, Minor Puppy in Group or Puppy in Group at any Open Show in Queensland will receive 1 point.

• PLEASE NOTE: Only puppies over 6 months old by 18 November 2017 can compete at the event (born on or after 18 May 2017).

• In the case of multiple dogs being on equal points for the final positions, all will be invited to enter, however, where more than 24 dogs have entered, the final positions from the dogs on tied points will be decided with prejudging occurring prior to the draw in the afternoon of the event by a different judge.

Neuter Best of Winners

• All Neuter exhibits that have been awarded BNIG or RUBNIG at any Championship or Open Show Dogs Queensland Event are eligible to enter.

• There are no points for qualification as all BNIG and RUBNIG winners were eligible to participate this year.

NOTE: Dogs associated with event judges or Best of Winners Committee members will not be eligible to enter the event.

JUDGING FORMAT:

Puppy Best of Winners and Best of Winners Group Judging:

For each Group, 24 entrants will participate in Group eliminations being judged by 3 Open Show Judges from the Open Show Judging Panel for that Group.

If there are more than 24 qualifiers for PBOW or BOW for any Group, prejudging will occur by one different Judge to finalise the top 24 for Group judging prior to the draw.

An elimination draw will be conducted in advance with any final positions to be finalised following prejudging.

Each Group will have 3 rounds of elimination judging - after judging each pair of dogs, Judges will decide which dog will advance to the next round and eventually be crowned the winner.

This will provide 3 Group finalists who will continue through to the finals judging.

After awarding the 3 finalists in the Group, all beaten dogs will be asked to return to the ring where each Judge will grant a wild card to the finals. This is to recognise that a super dog can be beaten by another super dog in the early rounds.

Each Group will then have 6 dogs progress to the finals.

Neuter Best of Winners:

With a large qualifying pool of Neuters this year, the determination of judging will format will be decided after the closing of entries.

One option is for all Neuter entries to be judged by the finals Judges. If the entry is very large, initial group or a second Neuter ring may be required.

Exhibitors who have entered the Neuter event will be notified prior to the day.

Finals:

There will be 3 judges in the ring. 42 dogs will come through from the 7 Groups.

The finals Judges will not know who received a wild card or who got through the rounds.

Dogs will compete 2 at a time in an elimination format.

After judging each pair of dogs, Judges will decide which dog will advance to the next round.

Based on 42 finalists, there will be some dogs that will get a bye round and there will be 5 rounds of judging to come down to the top 3 finalists.

To determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd:

First round 42 becomes 21. One dog will be given a bye. 20 becomes 10 + the 1 bye = 11, a different part of the Steward’s grid will have a dog having a bye. 10 becomes 5 + the 1 bye = 6 dogs. Next round 6 becomes 3. These will be your Winner final three.

This is the confusing bit… well not really.

Dog A and Dog B will compete. Winner stands to the side. The defeated dog (say Dog B) competes against Dog C. If the defeated dog (e.g. Dog B) beats Dog C, places have been determined. However, if Dog C defeats Dog B (defeated dog), Dog B would be awarded 3rd place. Dog A and Dog C would then compete for 1st and 2nd places.

Finals Judges are Queensland Judges who have all undertaken studies in all Groups.

TIMES:

All entered competitors must register between 2:30 and 3:00pm outside the front of the main building.

The draw for all 3 events will have been conducted by the Committee at a meeting prior to the event to facilitate the flow of the event. Each draw will be available at 3:00pm on the day. Where run-offs are required to finalise the remaining places, these will be added at the completion of run-offs.

The judging of the first event(s) will begin at 4:00pm sharp. All dogs and handlers need to be ready when called.

At the completion of the Neuter Finals, there will be a parade of Murray River Retrievers with a brief talk about the breed. This will provide the Finals Judges with a short break between sections.

With a large entry anticipated, timeliness will need to be observed by exhibitors, Stewards and Judges to ensure the event can finish in reasonable time.

RING ALLOCATION:

Finals:           Ring 1                                  Group 1:              Training Ring

LOGAN CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS - GOVT BREEDER ID UPDATE

As most members resident in the Logan City Council area would be aware, the Council, as an Approved Entity the same as Dogs Queensland, decided to issue their own Breeder ID number for all members within their local area. This was in addition to the number issued by BioSecurity for our members (i.e. the Dogs Queensland membership number).

This has caused considerable confusion amongst our members/breeders as they had been provided with two and sometimes three Breeder ID numbers.

Through an open dialogue between Dogs Queensland and the Council, the following points have been agreed:

• Dogs Queensland members residing in the Logan City Council region should always use the number as provided by BioSecurity - i.e. their Dogs Queensland membership number.
• That same number must be used when submitting details following the microchipping of a litter or an older dog.
• If the resident member advertises a dog or litter for sale within the boundaries of Logan City, then both ID numbers must be quoted. That is, where an advertisement is taken in print or electronic media, then the Breeder ID number as recognised on the State Breeder Registry plus the breeder ID number issued by Logan City Council must both be quoted.
• The original remedy was to always quote/use both ID numbers. However, this solution will not work when a Vet is trying to load breeder ID details into the microchip database as there are not enough spaces available on the database registry to accommodate so many extra numbers and letters.

This issue is continuing to be discussed further with the Council and any further developments will be advised to members.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - ENGAGEMENT OF DOGS QUEENSLAND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

As part of our ongoing service delivery review process, the Board has decided to engage the services of an experienced Chief Executive Officer to help drive our organisation further ahead, provide more strategic focus and enhance our reputation and profile as the peak dog body in Queensland.

The Board has engaged the services of executive recruitment firm, U & U to assist in this task. An advertisement has this morning been placed on seek.com.au. U & U will assess the applicants and shortlist the best candidates for the Board to review, and for a panel to interview.

The service delivery review that has been performed identified a number of strengths and weaknesses within our current administrative functions. The newly appointed CEO will be tasked with developing a proper structure and framework for the office, performing an audit of all staff members and the tasks they perform and implementing steps to improve efficiency and management processes.

The new CEO will also be tasked with executing strategies across human resources, marketing, fundraising and program delivery areas. They will oversee community and public relations and be tasked to enhance the Dogs Queensland name throughout the wider community. There will also be a very strategic focus to their role and they will be expected to look at alternative revenue streams, review and continue development of our organisational strategic plan and be responsible for the effective fiscal management and governance of the organisation.

This engagement is a new approach for Dogs Queensland and a great deal will hinge on the successful applicant that is appointed. We ask that members be patient during this process. There will be some significant but exciting changes ahead for Dogs Queensland and throughout this whole process, we will ensure there is complete transparency by continuing to communicate and engage with all members.

Shane Thomas
President

SURVEY - CANINE RESEARCH PROJECT

An independent party has been approved to ask our members if they wish to participate in an online survey to assist their research into the relationship between dogs and their owners. Their reasons are as follows:

"We believe dog ownership has multiple benefits, including physical & psychological.

Dogs have much more to offer to society than what is generally recognised, with statistics and research (overseas) to support this.

For example; "there are more Australian households with pet dogs, than there are with children under the age of 16" - (Morgan, Roy; June 04 2015, Finding No. 6272, Press Release Australia).

The information we collect will increase our chances of finding someone to produce a research paper.

We can use this paper to encourage harsher penalties for crimes committed against dogs, shut down unethical puppy mills & develop dog integrated health programs such as; buddy programs for kids to increase self esteem, reading & health. Just to name a few.

We would like to offer any dog owners at your organisation or in your network, the opportunity to take part in our research by simply answering a few questions.

The timeframe to complete the survey is between 20-30 minutes, depending on the participant's responses".

REMINDER - SOMERSET INFORMATION EVENING 30 AUG

This is a reminder of the email sent on Thursday 24 August regarding the Information Evening being conducted by Somerset Regional Council on Wednesday 30 August. It is vitally important that as many Dogs Queensland members as possible attend because the Council will view us in a much better light if it is supported and it is more likely they will keep conditions more relaxed next year and beyond if their view is favourable now. The original email with details is shown below (note that the RSVP is no longer in use):

If you live in the Somerset Regional Council (SRC) area, we are delighted to extend an invitation to you. With the valuable support of Somerset Regional Council, we have organised an information evening that will be exclusive to our SRC resident members.

The information evening will be chaired by Mark Sheppard, Dogs Queensland's Government Liaison Officer.

This event will deliver important information about the recent changes to the Local Laws that affect the number of dogs that can now be kept on a property and whether those dogs can be bred from. We expect the formal presentation will take no more than 30 minutes, after which a Q&A session will be held to allow members to raise anything that requires clarification.

Hard copies of the dog keeping application form will be provided to those who attend as well as other useful documents that will assist members when completing their application to keep and/or breed from additional dogs.

The information evening will begin with a welcome and an acknowledgment of the support by the SRC that has been extended to Dogs Queensland and our members. SRC will be represented on the night by Cr Sean Choat (SRC Councillor) and Mr Chris Payne (Director of Corporate and Community Services).

It is critically important that we have a strong member turnout to this information evening – it will demonstrate that Dogs Queensland members are serious about strengthening the relationship between our two organisations – that strong relationship will stand us in good stead when we review the response to (and compliance with) the new local laws during the first half of 2018.

Meeting Date:                   Wednesday 30th August 2017

Time:                                  6:00pm for a start time of 6:30pm sharp

Venue:                               Esk Library (Simeon Lord Meeting Room), Heap Street, Esk.

Duration:                           We expect that the information evening will finish no later than 8:00pm

Catering:                            Light refreshments will be available at the conclusion of the event.

JUNIOR HANDLERS COMPETITION AT THE ALL DOGS SPORTS SPECTACULAR

Dogs Queensland has approved a Junior Handlers Jumpers Competition at the All Dogs Sports Spectacular as an exhibition class. The Competition will be held during the lunch break in the Agility ring and handlers wishing to compete must complete the standard entry form on the day.

A set of rules has been drawn up and are listed below. The competition will be split into age groups from 7 to 18 years old. Here is an opportunity to get behind this initiative.

This is your chance to have some fun with Jumpers at Novice Level. Anyone with Juniors from 7 to 18 interested in Agility wishing to compete are welcome. There will be no entry fee but Juniors may only enter if their parents or grandparents are members of Dogs Queensland or are sponsored by a Dogs Queensland member. Just come and have a go and have some FUN. The dog may not necessarily be owned by the handler or be a novice dog.

Any questions, please email to the following address: dakotasmokie@gmail.com or 0438 621 663.

RULES FOR SPONSORED JUNIOR HANDLER:

Age – 7 to under 18 years, not a family member of a financial member.

●  Sponsored by a financial member who is present at or near the ring and accepts responsibility for supervising the Sponsored Junior Handler.

●  Application must be made in writing to Dogs Queensland by the sponsor and be accompanied by a written consent signed by the parent/s of the Sponsored Junior Handler.

By authorising and sponsoring a person under 18 years to handle a dog, the owner of the dog and the supervising adult shall:

● Warrant to Dogs Queensland, the Show Committee and all Officials conducting the Show, that the Sponsored Junior Handler is competent to handle the dog safely.

● Agree to accept full responsibility for the Sponsored Junior Handler and the dog for the duration of the exhibition.

● Indemnify Dogs Queensland, the Show Committee and all Officials conducting the Show for any injury, harm, loss or damage arising out of the handling of the dog by the Sponsored Junior Handler.

JUNIOR HANDLER DOG COMPETITIONS:

• Junior             7 years to 10 years                                minimum 10 obstacles

• Intermediate   11 years to maximum 13 years             minimum 14 obstacles

• Advanced       14 years to under 18 years                   full Novice course

Code of Conduct

Follow the Rules and Regulations of the ANKC and their State controlling body.

Show respect to fellow competitors, Judges and Club officials by accepting constructive criticism and the Judge’s decision as final, and by congratulating Handlers who place above you.

Welcome and encourage new Handlers.

Advice

Choose a dog carefully, make sure it is one that you feel comfortable with AND have your parents/owner of dogs’ permission.

Listen to the Judge’s instructions carefully, if unsure of the instruction, politely ask the Judge to repeat it.

Junior Handlers can use any registered Agility dog regardless of the competition level that dog is currently listed as. Dogs do not obtain qual Titles, it is the Handlers that receive points based on number of obstacles completed.

Parents/Guardians are allowed to walk the course with the Junior Handler.

Parents/Guardians are permitted to hold the dog at the start and release when the Junior Handler is ready to start.

Agility dogs can be lent to Junior Handlers with the owners and Parent/Guardians’ consent.

Judges are to offer encouragement.

Junior Handlers must be registered with Dogs’ Queensland.

No food is allowed in the ring – competition rules are run similar to ANKC Agility with the exception of holding dogs at start lines.

Junior Handlers are encouraged to attend Judges’ Training Days in order to learn and practice with their dogs.

JUDGES WILL BE LOOKING FOR:

Competitors following instructions from the Judge.

Giving clear direction to the dog.

Following the numerical order of the course.

Not obstructing the dog.

Praising the dog during and after the run.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - REGISTRATION OF UNDESIRABLE COLOURS FOR FRENCH BULLDOGS & BRITISH BULLDOGS

Due to increased problems of incorrect colours of French Bulldog and British Bulldog litters being submitted to the office, the Dogs Queensland Board has recently moved to implement a new registration process which will assist in the protection of our members, puppy buyers and of our national pedigree database. The system will also ensure that all pups are correctly registered, with those of undesirable colour being placed on the Limited Register.

From 1 July 2017, all litters of French Bulldogs and British Bulldogs must be inspected by a panel of three appointed Judges who will verify the individual pup to its registered microchip and the litter registration paperwork. All litter registration paperwork must be lodged with the Dogs Queensland office prior to any inspections being allocated. You will be contacted by email when the litter is lodged. Inspection dates at Durack and other proposed locations will be set as needed, with members being advised of upcoming dates as they are allocated. As Queensland is a large State, we have recognised that some members will be unable to attend these assessments due to their location or simply due to the dates allocated. As an alternative to undertaking the inspection process, members can do one of two things:

1. A letter from a vet can be provided stating the colours of the puppies with microchip details for each pup as well as verification of the Sire and Dam in the vet’s letter; or

2. Copies of DNA parentage testing of the pups and full Canine Breed Profile results can be provided with the litter registration paperwork when it is submitted.

In circumstances where litters have been sold prior to the registrations being completed, the above processes will still apply.  Where pups have been sold interstate, inspections can be carried out by other State Kennel Associations, with inspection reports being submitted to Dogs Queensland from those States.

This process is a very new approach for Dogs Queensland and we expect that there may be some teething problems over the next month or two. We ask that members be patient with the implementation of this process and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email the office.
